Day 1 Our incredible train journey begins at Toronto's Union Station (downtown) for
our 9:00AM departure aboard the "VIA Rail Transcontinental" bound for
Pacific Canada. Our first class rail cars are refurbished to the 1950's
genre in Art Deco. The observation dome offers unequalled views as we roll
across the Appalachian Shield of Ontario. The private bedrooms are
comfortable and all meals are included.

Day 2
Each day is a culinary delight as all meals are included. We pass
sparkling lakes and boreal forests as we roll into Manitoba, the province of
100,000 lakes. Drink in the vistas from the dome cars and enjoy the
terrific on-board service. We arrive in Winnipeg in the early morning.
This evening let the train gently rock you to sleep.
Day 3 Continue
across the wheatfields of Saskatchewan and carry on into the province of
Alberta. Arrive in Edmonton in the afternoon and transfer to hotel at West Edmonton Mall.

Day 4 We
have a full day to explore the mall and Edmonton on our own. We
suggest the Alberta Legislature
and downtown Edmonton including the most unique city hall
anywhere. How about lunch at the Harvest Room in the historic and
majestic MacDonald Hotel. Hike the The river valley (Edmonton has
more parks than any city in North America) and lively Whyte
Avenue. Perhaps rent a car and drive to Jasper in the Rocky
Mountains. Shopping in the mall is an adventure in itself.
Visit one of the 26 movie theaters, the IMAX theater (be sure to be
warmed by the fire breathing dragon - Really!), 800 stores and
restaurants, 4 submarines, dolphin shows, multi-acre water park with
wave pool, theme park, lounges and discos, live theater etc.

| Day 6
We transfer to Edmonton International Airport on our own. Direct airport
shuttles are available from West Edmonton Mall and many downtown hotels.
Our flight departs to yellowknife, the "Diamond capitol of North
America". 10% of the worlds diamonds are harvested at mines in the
Northwest Territories. Arrive in Yellowknife, located on the shores of
Great Slave Lake. It is a city of striking contrasts. Log
cabins, luxury hotels, dog teams and jet service, are trademarks of this
thriving city. We are met by our friendly guide and transferred to our
hotel. Join our tour escort for a "fish fry" on an island on
Great Slave Lake.
Day 7
This
morning we have free time to explore before we transfer to the airport for the
flight across the arctic circle to Inuvik. We are met and transferred to
the "city center" for a two night stay. People are often
surprised how big modern and colorful Inuvik is. This "planned
city" is constructed on the east channel of the Mackenzie River and is
largely a regional center for aboriginal organizations and government.
With 24 hours of sun during the summer months, we will be tempted to not want to
sleep at all. We walk about town and set ourselves down for a delicious
meal.
Day
8 We transfer
to the airport for a short flight to Tuktoyaktuk. The great Mackenzie
River Delta is displayed before us as we descend to the coastline of the Arctic
Ocean. Imagine telling your friends back home you dipped your toes into
the Arctic Ocean. A local guide introduces us to the local community and
local cuisine. We return to our hotel in Inuvik for the night.
Day 9
We
depart Inuvik by air crossing into the great Yukon Territory. We parallel
the Dempster Highway over the Richardson Mountains and Ogilvie Range to famous
Dawson City. We spend two nights in the city that hosted the largest gold
rush the world has ever known! It is now a world heritage UNESCO
sight. We are treated to a short tour of the city that drinks from the
Yukon River before we ascend "the Dome" for panoramic views of the
city and surrounding tundra.
Day 10 History
unfolds for us as we travel out to the gold fields on bonanza creek. Here
we find the Discovery Claim, as well as the largest wooden hull dredge in the
world. Following a tour of this massive structure, we can try our luck at
panning for gold before returning to Dawson City. We have time to explore
on our own a little and can take in Diamond Tooth Gerties at leisure this
evening.
Day 11
After
breakfast we follow the Yukon River south to Whitehorse. Along the way we
stop to view historic sights like Minto Landing, Carmacks and the famed Five
Finger Rapids. Check into our hotel in Whitehorse where three quarters of
the population of the Yukon resides. Join us this evening at Frantic
Follies. Some passengers may choose to return to Edmonton from here.
Day 12
We
tour Miles Canyon to the SS Klondike. This was the last paddle wheeler to
ply the waters of the mighty Yukon River between Whitehorse and Dawson
City. Depart to Whitehorse on the famed Alaska Highway. We can swim
in the Liard Hotsprings. Magnificent mountain scenery will be displayed
before us as we pass Muncho Lake and cross over steamboat mountain on our way to
Fort Nelson for the night.
Day 13
From
Fort Nelson cross over Pink Mountain and pass by places with names like Wonowon.
Arrive in Dawson Creek, British Columbia and stand before the infamous
"Mile 0" of the Alaska Highway. We enter beautiful Alberta once
more and overnight in the Rocky Mountain foothills city of Grande Prairie.
We can join our tour director for a farewell/Thank you dinner this evening.
Day 14 All
too soon our great Canadian North Adventure has come to an end as we arrive into
Edmonton, capital and largest metropolis in Alberta. Passengers may choose
to overnight in Edmonton (additional cost) or connect to flights that depart no
earlier than 4:30PM
